Shorter services (2-3 hours) are available from Normanton on other days. Call for details. The Matilda Way comes from Cunnamulla to Karumba, providing a great alternative to the Pacific Coast Touring Route. Fuel Most fuel outlets in the region don’t open until 7 am or later and close by 6pm, so if you intend to travel early in the morning it is advisable to obtain your fuel the day before. Auto (LP) gas is available at Forsayth, Georgetown and Cloncurry. Mechanical Repairs Garages are available in most of the larger towns. It is advisable to ensure that your vehicle is mechanically sound and that consideration is given to carrying basic spare parts for your vehicle. Please check road conditions prior to departure to ascertain suitability of your vehicle to handle the conditions. Local people and travellers coming the opposite way can also be a great source of information, so don’t forget to ask around for more up to date information. Trucks and freight haulers use Channel 40 UHF which is useful for gaining the latest information on roads.
