Mareeba boasts coffee and mango wine production and a renowned bird habitat – the Mareeba Wetlands. Atherton is a central base set among green farmland with local walks and bird hides. A real highlight is Crystal Caves, creatively displaying a lifetime’s precious crystal and fossil collecting in a main street location. Take home an incredible and unique gift! Yungaburra is a quaint village with restaurants and quirky shops and scenic drives around nearby Lake Tinaroo. Other fascinating towns are just a short drive off The Savannah Way. Country Markets are held each weekend and a fun part of many Tablelands visits. Stalls sell anything from craft and second hand tools to plants, animals, books and homemade jams and cakes. There are plenty of great nibbles available while you stroll. Town market days are: 1st Saturday of each month: Atherton, Mt. We’ve listed some favourites but there are many more around bird watching, sports, country shows and music. Check with Visitor Information Centres. On your way west, Innot Hot Springs offers a natural creek or swimming pool style experience in hot mineral waters. Mount Garnet has a mini museum to visit, and Forty Mile Scrub is an interesting stop to learn about the changing natural habitats. An alternate route is the re-opened Kirrama Range Road, which provides a scenic route from Kennedy on the coast to Mount Garnet. Pick up a free map at Visitor Information Centres and stop at Blencoe Falls and Herbert River Gorge for amazing views.
